While they may not share the spotlight with other aftermarket parts, the fasteners used in this rod are not only a selling point of the item, but are a key part of its power-holding ability.

This requires a drill press. Don’t attempt to do this with a handheld drill because the hole won’t be straight. Put a sharp .250" countersink bit intended for metal into your drill press, don protective gloves and goggles, and slowly enlarge the hole, being careful not to drill through the top of the knob. But here’s the trick: You also have to secure the knob to keep it perfectly vertical, and you can’t do this by simply holding it. In the shop we use a vise grip covered with a thick layer of foam rubber to protect the knob from getting scratched. We also use wooden blocks with holes sized to hold our most popular knobs while they’re being drilled.

Work long enough with 3D printers, and our ideas inevitably grow beyond our print volume. Depending on the nature of the project, it may be possible to divide into pieces then glue them together. But usually a larger project also places higher structural demands ill-suited to plastic.

I can see from your photo that you’ve got a standard gable roof where at least one end of your home has a flat gable wall that takes the full brunt of the wind. Imagine the pounds of pressure against the entire side wall when a strong wind hits it. The entire roof system, if not solidly braced, can and will flex to absorb this force. This flexing is what’s causing the popping noise.

In those days, once the copy was written, it was sent to the visualiser who would think of an illustration to go with the copy. The image would then be sketched and the text typed out on a manual typewriter. The graphic artist would mark ‘bold, upper case, lower case, 36 points’ on headlines and similar things on the body copy. This text would then go to a typesetter; most of them were located on McLeod Road. The typesetters would set the text using Letraset and print it out on an art paper. Then it would be put on a board, each line was cut individually and pasted on the design.

Jigsaws are great all-purpose saws that are perfect for cutting awkward shapes like curves but can be used to cut straight lines.

A good torque wrench that has been recently calibrated/certified for accuracy is perfectly sufficient. Also keep in mind, that when using a torque wrench, the actual clamp load created can be altered when a fastener is installed “dry” (without lubricant, sealant, or thread locker on it) or “wet,” and the manufacturer’s torque guidelines should indicate the condition of the desired torque measurement.
