An obstacle standing in the way is institutionalised thinking and a strong affection for the status quo. We need to take greater risks and encourage social to be a frontrunner instead of an add-on. The other big hurdle is disconnected campaign planning. The trust deficit between agencies working on different aspects of the campaign needs to be addressed and multiple partners need to work in tandem, not in silos.

We’ve all heard that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. We learn that lesson in our high-performance cars too, don’t we? As we improve one part of the car, another part is suddenly pushed past its capabilities and either stops performing correctly, or breaks. Add engine power, and the transmission or clutch fails. Upgrade the transmission, and the driveshaft or rear axle goes South. Get the entire drivetrain up to snuff, and then the tires spin effortlessly. Upgrade the tires, and the suspension gets tweaked or you learn what wheelhop means. You get the idea!

While flange heads are stiffer than standard flat washers, a different variable must be considered. The contact face is not perfectly flat, but instead slightly conical. This creates a different type of pressure gradient across the diameter, and one that is more difficult to predict.

Engineers can spend more time optimizing assembly processes rather than designing each assembly machine from scratch.

Had my first try and making an internal thread on a part with a custom tool on the CNC machine. Now I am wondering why I even bothered had tapping any threads although the forming tools are not cheap the finish is perfect every time. I’m still getting to grips with doing the same on the lathe as that has not been converted to CNC (yet)

The fastener continues to penetrate the material stack until the tip penetrates the bottom of the stack. The conical geometry of the fastener helps to extrude a short boss on the bottom side of the stack.
